Country School Cross Country Race at Adams MS

The Country School Cross-Country Teams Race at Adams Middle School On Wednesday, in an exciting first-ever event, The Country School’s girls and boys cross-country teams traveled to Adams Middle School in Guilford to face off against Adams and the New Haven Charter School. With the eighth graders away on overnight trips, it was up to the younger runners to step up—and they certainly did, showcasing determination and grit over the 1.6-mile course around Guilford High School’s campus. Leading the charge for the girls was sixth-grader Liv Killam, who dominated the race, crossing the finish line first overall with an impressive time of 11:38. Not far behind her, in a thrilling duel for fourth and fifth place, were Liv’s good 6th grade friends, Emily Antman and Lucy Clark. The pair battled the entire way, with their race culminating in a dramatic sprint down a treacherous downhill section. Antman edged out Clark in the final moments, both putting in stellar performances. Newcomer Jonah Benton showed great promise, running alongside her friend Nora Morris. The duo finished fourth and fifth for The Country School, clocking times of 16:24 and 16:32, respectively. After the race, the girls team went the extra mile—literally—by doing additional hill work with Coach McDonough, showing their dedication. As the boys' race kicked off, Henry Laurans led the charge for The Country School. The explosive Laurans powered through to finish third overall with a strong time of 10:29. Right behind him was Tash Frustaczer, who blazed into fourth place at 11:16. Despite battling heal pain, fifth-grader Harper Merrill turned in a gutsy performance, finishing third for the team in 13:48. Newcomers Micah Benton and Arlo McGahan, both fifth graders, rounded out the boys’ efforts, crossing the line with times of 15:46 and 18:09, respectively. After conquering the hills with Mr. McDonough’s guidance, the team left the course with heads held high, already setting their sights on the upcoming Wickham Invitational next Saturday. With promising performances from these younger runners, The Country School’s cross-country teams are certainly looking strong for the challenges ahead!
