Six schools gathered on October 23 at the stunning Beckerman Athletic
Center for the annual Hamden Hall Invitational, but it was Country
School that stole the show in racing filled with unforgettable
performances, grit, and glory.
Both boys and girls left spectators breathless, with the girls
defending a spotless four-year undefeated streak in dual meets, and
rising star Henry L. seizing the title in the boys’ race with the
fastest time of the day.
The course itself was a true test: two miles of twisting sidewalks,
rugged trails, and paths that kept the runners on their toes. Henry L.
burst out of the pack, dominating the course with a blazing time of
12:08 to claim his first-ever laurel wreath. Charging behind him,
captain Zack B. fought for every second, coming in sixth overall with
an impressive 13:13.
But the team’s strength didn’t stop there. Gritty fifth-grader Harper
M. showed unstoppable determination, finishing third for Country
School and 24th overall, while pulling along fellow fifth-graders Sam
and Micah in 43rd and 44th places, respectively. Even with an injury,
eighth-grade captain Kieran F. pushed through the pain, finishing in
48th and urging fifth-grader Arlo to a strong 59th to seal the team’s
score.
For the girls, it was a masterclass in resilience and team power. With
all runners healthy and ready, Country School dominated, scoring just
28 points—a shockingly low score no one could remember seeing before
Hamden Hall's Invitational.
Captain Tillie led the charge with steely resolve, followed closely by
her younger sister, Liv, a sixth-grade powerhouse. Eighth-grade
captain Maribel surged through to take fourth place, exclaiming as she
crossed the finish line, "That was fun!"
Breakout sixth-grade star Lucy Clark thrilled her fans, coming in
sixth with cheers echoing behind her. Fellow sixth-grader and tireless
competitor Emily A. closed out the scoring with a determined
15th-place finish, crossing the finish line with a smile and leaving
Hamden Hall, Hopkins, Foote and other contenders far in the distance.
Newcomers Jonah B. (21st) and Nora M. (25th) added depth to the team’s
success, each showing that they’re forces to watch in the seasons to
come. The day wrapped up with athletes enjoying well-deserved
refreshments courtesy of Hamden Hall, while the girls claimed their
team trophy and top 10 runners from each race received medals. It was
a day of triumph, teamwork, and total endurance—proving once again
that Country School owls are a parliament with which to be reckoned.
