Boys' Soccer Owls Start the Season

Jason Wainio
The Country School Owls kicked off their season with a game at The Foote School in New Haven.  For many players, this was their first game playing soccer for TCS and, for some, their first game ever!  As Coach Birdsall said, the boys are "learning to play the game while they are playing the game."  The defense was under pressure out of the gate.  6th grader, Sam Collins, was outstanding in goal.  He set a TCS record with 19 saves and did all he could to prevent scores.  8th Grader Jace Coassin got on the scoresheet for the Owls.  He scored a breakaway goal in the second half, assisted by Kieran Freeman.  Oliver Milligan had a solid day playing on the right wing and had several successful crosses into the box.  Although the final score may not reflect it, the team grew and improved in their field sense and understanding of the game.  We look forward to our next opponent, Pine Point, who visit Country School on Thursday for a coed game.
